A lathe center is a tool that has been ground to a point to accurately position a workpiece on an axis. It has an included angle of 60°. The primary use of a center is to ensure concentric work is produced; this allows theworkpieceto be transferred between machining operations without any loss of accuracy. A part may be turned in a lathe, sent off for hardening and tempering and then ground between centers in a cylindrical grinder. A center is also used to support longer workpieces where the cutting forces would deflect the work excessively, reducing the finish and accuracy of the workpiece.

1.Conical part is made from T10 steel, quenching hardness 55 to 60 HRC, the main body part is made from 40Cr steel, quenching hardness 45 to 50 HRC.

4.Designed for lathe in medium speed and medium load environment.
